Reflecting On The Stream, or: Six Times Six
April marks six months of blogging on the Stream for me, the “SixFootBlonde.” Like I’ve seen others mention, I didn’t really know quite what to expect in the blog world, either, when I first started here. My only thoughts were that this would be a cool alternative to my journal writing. Simple as that; nothing more.
Or so I thought…
Never did I anticipate that Blogstream would turn out to be so “interactive” with other writers who all shared in common the same longing for self-expression, each in their own unique way. Nor did I begin to imagine how fond I would become of so many.
When Blogstream was first born, a core group of sorts bonded during those neo-natal first several weeks of blogging life together… and these people remain very near and dear to my heart. Soon others trickled, then flooded into the Stream… not without growing pains of sorts, but we’re all stronger and better writers and people because of it.
Some blog writers I’ve enjoyed have moved on and they are missed, but as with “select cutting” within a forest, new trees will grow to take their place, and the remaining trees will flourish.
Something I’ve found I cannot abide are those bloggers who are negative and sarcastic, or have agendas toward another writer “hidden” within their posts. Sorry, but it’s so transparent and the drama is boring, quite frankly. Only a few are still around, luckily. For me personally, I come here to have fun, and enjoy catching up with Stream friends in a positive way. I just wish I had more time to spend!
As I reminisce about six months on the Stream, I cannot help but laugh when I think of The Great Blogstream Court Debacle last fall when Scratch went on trial for his remarks about Dazey’s so-called “German Helmet” hat. And who can forget the stellar lawyership of Ms. Coloconnect for the Prosecution, and Mr. EM Diesel for the Defense. I would have to ask Judge Ice to remind me what the ultimate verdict was, though I believe Scratch was “GUILTY AS CHARGED”. Hopefully, you’ve all forgotten that I was willing to be a witness for which ever side offered me the best perks. Hey, we ALL have our price! It was too much fun, to be sure!
The first ever comment I received on my debut Blogstream post was from ^Belle^, whom I refer to now as my “rebel sister” and fellow southerner. I have enjoyed the love story she shares with “The Yankee”. When I think of Puppy & Ice, they remind me of everyone’s favorite neighbors, who always throw the best barbeque party on the block and you can’t wait to go. Who else remembers when they kept it from us that they were a real-life couple? Pup I think of as “the voice of reason” around here. And no one has quite the introduction for me that Ice has, with his quirky “Six feet of blond hair stacked six feet high….” on top of something or other. It always cracks me up!
Miss Topaz always starts out my day with a smile with her jokes, and I lovingly refer to her as “Mom”. I think of my friend Whit like a father-figure…and I say this with all the love in the world. He is always a gentleman on Blogstream and I highly respect his work. Heather “Seeing Red” Kovar reminds me of myself when I was a 20-something and had all that fire in my belly, too. I enjoy her thoughtful posts. And then there’s PoP who always calls Six a “10”. PoP, your writing intrigues me, and I hope someday this Grasshopper can take the pebble from your hand. I’m not worthy yet! Lovely RitaB reminds me of everyone’s favorite cool Aunt, who is the hippest relative in the family, and sure to be the life of any family get-together. She’s the one starting the conga line!
Ms. Polar B is the person I think I’d most like to get a big ol’ hug from. Her writing is so open and honest. The rawness of her posts has brought tears to my eyes more than once. Where would we be without our lovable Bear and the light she brings to the Stream? Right up there with her is Colo. I am always amazed by the posts she crafts, and more times than not, I find myself at a total loss for words when I want so much to make a comment on the slices of life she shares. I feel along with her, even when speech escapes me. Dazey is someone I admire as she shares her journey. She’s very thoughtful and creative…. and darn it, I just wanna spend the day out shopping and having girl talk with her! Miss Pie, or “Sweet Cherry Pie” as I call her, is so down to earth… I wonder if she is only temporarily away from us all, as she redefines her life with her husband in positive ways. I hope she comes back soon. Blumoon Maria is the only one who understands the affinity we share for Tom Brady. I would love to see a Pats game with her one day!
How fun would it be to be received at The Palace of the Prankster, and the royal feline Woogie? I picture Pranky as the consummate host and would be quite entertaining. Oh, to run around in his brain for a day! The mind boggles with shenanigans and tomfoolery of the highest caliber. Sir Cranky has always been a fun read, as he shares his angst and joys of living the life of a free-lance writer in NY. Wayf is another very talented writer we are blessed to have amongst us with his poetry and struggles to keep his yin and yang in balance.
When I think of Lucy, I want to throw a bachelorette party for her in Las Vegas. So what if she has been married for a while, I didn’t know her back then…so I’m throwing one now! Inside the limo for the party, you’ll find my party girls Mary (with the pretty blinking cat eyes), MaryElizabeth, Miss Lou, Ash’s Mom, Deby, and no doubt, Miss Donuts-- leading us all “more” astray than we already are! Of course, while we are out, there is nobody else I would rather have for bodyguards than Big Chris and Big Al. They would protect us in high style from roving bands of Vegas vikings.
So maybe next Big Chris and Big Al could drive us on down the road, and over toward The Tomb…. would Scratch answer the door if we sent Ms Donuts up to get him? Would he have Mr. P answer by proxy? We know he’s home.. we can hear those sweet guitar riffs through the walls. Knock, knock, knockin’ on Scratchy’s door…
Newer friends like Madie, who is so clever with her posts, and always makes me smile with her kind words for everyone in her comments around the Stream; and Midnight43 with the beautiful pictures of flowers and who has shared her relationships with her children and writes touching poetry; and Mr. Black Napalm, who despite the name is a very gentle spirit and writes with such brutal honesty about his struggles and never ceases to amaze me. Then there is the good Captain Morgan, and his lovely Queen Chey, the most colorful couple I know! Nobody writes with a wink and a nudge quite like my favorite ol’ Salt. Oh, to be the proverbial fly on the wall at the infamous Road House when the Captain is in port!
Last, but certainly not least, a special shout out to E.M. Diesel, whom I adore the best. Your friendship over the last six months has been worth its weight in gold. Thanks for your sense of humor, affection, and the long, long hours we’ve spent behind the scenes conferencing in the “Cowbell” board room, day and night...and for having faith in me to let me run with the ideas. You rock!
Wow, who knew I’d have so much to say?! I thought this was gonna be a quick lil post!
;) -Six, over and out!
