I'm not sure exactly how we got on the topic of disappointment, my friend the Whirling Dervish and I, but I mentioned to her that this particular disappointment was akin to the way I felt when Miss Jane never gave me a shout-out while looking thru her Magic Mirror at the end of every Romper Room episode I watched as a wee lass.

I mean, after memorizing all the words to the exercises songs, "bend and stretch, reach for the stars..." and playing along with the Punch-A-Ball, and clomping around the living room in my Romper Stompers with the TV class, the very LEAST Miss Jane could do was see me in that daggone mirror every now and then, for cryin' out loud!

Smugly, the Whirling Dervish pointed out that her Romper Room teacher, Miss Connie out of Washington DC, always saw her in the Magic Mirror, and perhaps my teacher's Mirror was... a bit off.

Fine.

Now let's go outside and settle this, once and for all, with a game of pointy steel nosed lawn darts. HA! I liked Captain Kangaroo better, anyway!

Boy, does that bring back memories, Miss Six. I remember Miss Connie from my days in DC too. I always tried to be a Do-bee instead of a Don't-bee...

Hint: do be!

Romper Room, not just a show, a way of living!!! LOL

Six - well I was going to ask how I looked through that magic mirror - several years younger I would suspect!!!! WEll, I vaguely remember our sons watching Romper Room but they would tell you that Mr. Rodgers and then AZ. Wallace and Ladmo were there favorites. How many times we went and braved the crowds to see Ladmo and Gerald from the Az. show ! WEll, have a great day and will belooking for sequel II. Blessings, June

Hi there Sixx...you know I was never a fan of Romper Room. Too organized for my taste. Even then I was fiercely independent! Never changed, either!

myspace layouts, myspace codes, glitter graphics

I never seemed to hear my name on romper room either! Apparently the name Nancy was too hard to remember.

Yes disappointments are very critical when we are young.

The best one I ever heard was a fellow teacher where I worked for 20+ years who as a young girl living in Washington D.C. decided to invite Elvis Presley to her Sr. Prom. She sent him an invitation. Dressed in her new prom dress, and sat in her living room for two hours before she realized he was not going to show up.

Now that was a very vulnerable young lady.... She went on to become a mother of three fine boys, is a breast cancer survivor and one of the best first grade teachers I have ever known.....And she waited for Elvis to pick her up? Wow!!!!

Loved your post. Thanks and my kids, and little Bro loved ol Capt. Kangaroo too...

I guess there weren't many little girls named "Secret" out there so my name was kinda hard for her too. Now my life is complete!

SIX,

I LOVED Romper Room...........well, I did always wonder just how she could see me.........that didn't seem quite right. I liked Mr. Green Jeans better anyway, and he was on Cap'n Kangaroo.

I used to watch Jack LaLanne. Isn't that funny? He had such big muscles. At least to a little girl like me. I always wanted to exercise like he did, but I never wanted those big muscles!

Six,

I'm not to sure if I feel comfortable with the way Miss Jane was looking at me through that mirror. She had a sort a' creepy look on her face, if you ask me.

I never heard my name on that show either, 'course there's not too many little boys named "wayfarer"...

peace, wayf

Hey Prank! Somehow, it doesn't surprise me that you always wanted to be the uh, ahem, doobie! Er, um, I mean "Do Bee".

Well, it came as quite a surprise to me to learn that there were several Romper Room teachers nationwide, and not just one that we all shared. Do you remember the punching bag clowns? I always wanted one of those...

Miss Chey, I also thought Captain Kangaroo rocked! But as for the lawn darts... I hope our Dear Captain won't put someone's eye out with that!

Chey and PR... I guess I'm the odd one out, because I never really was feeling Mr. Greenjeans. Although I sooooo loved Mister Moose, Bunny Rabbit and the ping pong balls, Dancing Bear, and Grandfather Clock. Oh, and let's not forget the Magic Drawing board, either!

OMG, Chris! I had forgotten about the "romper bomper stomper boo!" thingy.... weren't those Romper Stompers like little buckets upside down with small ropes to hold onto?

I don't know if Miss June ever had a thang with Captain Kangaroo... but there was a hot lil Romper Room teacher from St. Louis, Miss Anne, with her big blonde bouffant hair and mini skirts who might know something about that.... Good thing the boys were nowhere near puberty on the show!

I had one of those punching bag clowns...actually I think it belonged to my brother......I was a Mr Peppermint kind of girl...He was friends with my parents....They owned a daycare in the 60's and 70's and we had personal visits from Jerry....

That "Do Bee" was kind of catchy My daughter sings it to Hunter to have him pick things up.

I love this post!

Take Care and God Bless!

And BE A GOOD DO BEE!!!!!

Romper stomper bomper boo! My name is pretty common, so she would say it every now and then. I used to hide behind the couch so she wouldn't see me in my underwear! Wow...that brings back memories.
|<   <<   >>   >|

by Biggie T (PM , CC ) on Saturday April 21, 2007 @ 2:48 PM

I'm glad my name wasn't called, because I wouldn't want anyone to see me in my pajamas when I was little.

What is funny is that to this day, if I am at a party, I can hold up a ring to my face and say, "I see....", and it always gets a laugh because everyone remembers Romper Room.

I had forgotten about that silly show...must have blocked it out of my mind since she never saw either!!! Watched Capt. Kangaroo every morning. Does anyone remember Soupy Sails...or was it Soopy Sales????(my dad couldn't believe that a grown man got paid real money for being so silly!!) Smiles,Sharona

Ms. Carol once saw me thru that magical mirror of hers....and I ran screaming like a happy little girl!!!

(I was an impish little 6 year old boy at the time!)

It made me day.

My mom said,..."Well, that's because you decided to behave today...see... she only sees the GOOD girls and boys."

The next day I was back to being a snotty little 6 year old boy again!

*lol*

I am scared.
I heard she got busted for drugs, is there a connection?
My brother Mike had a huge crush on her and even got sent a big tootsie roll bank filled with Candy...what about that connection?
